Before You Consult a Psychic or A Medium, Consider This Factual Truth
Written by: Nikoya
The first king of Israel was a man by the name of Saul. The story tells us that he was very handsome and taller than all of the other men in the land. He was hand picked by God through the prophet Samuel, to be the first ever king of the tribe of Israel. Saul walked with God in the beginning. The Lord allowed him to lead his army into many victories, and the kingdom was blessed because of Saul. Saul was close to God. He followed His instructions in many areas, regarding the priesthood, banning psychics, diviners and mediums, and strictly following proper methods of sacrificial offerings.
He often received counsel from the respected prophet Samuel, the one who brought him forth into his identity as a king. Over time Saul grew self centered. He felt that he received victories by his own power. He began to let his valor get in his eyesight of God Almighty. Saul began to take situations upon his own accord and made decisions without taking God’s counsel. After many battles there was a time where God withdrew his Spirit away from Saul and stopped guiding his hand. The scripture states that the Lord sent an evil spirit to torment him instead.
“Now the Spirit of the Lord had departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the Lord tormented him.” – Samuel 16:14
Why did this happen? This happened because Saul’s self centered actions grieved away the Holy Spirit. The grievance was due to his hardened heart and unresponsiveness to the word of God and His instructions. Saul had transgressed greatly, his action included executing hundreds of priests and men of the cloth, because he could not hear the voice of God! Being cut off from God’s wisdom is detrimental to you and can affect everyone around you.
“Therefore, you Israelites, I will judge each of you according to your own ways, declares the Sovereign Lord. Repent! Turn away from all your offenses; then sin will not be your downfall. Rid yourselves of all the offenses you have committed, and get a new heart and a new spirit. Why will you die, people of Israel? For I take no pleasure in the death of anyone, declares the Sovereign Lord. Repent and live!” – Ezekiel 18:30-32
God will not force us to do anything, but he will judge us each to ensure justice. God will not make you enter in a relationship with Him or force you into obedience. It is through scripture that we learn that disobedience is an open door for “Saul-hearted Syndrome”. It is not only that God stops speaking to the consistently disobedient, but that the state of unresponsiveness makes God’s communicative efforts fall to the ground.
As Saul’s story proceeds, something peculiar takes place. Saul was so desperate to hear from God, but since his heart had been displaced from Him for so long, God did not answer Saul when he called. We read that Saul dipped back into his old toolbox of “self intervention methods”. The text states that he sought out answers regarding if he should pursue the Philistines in battle through the “casting of lots”, i.e. “Urim and Thumim” (a form of simple sorcery), etc. Saul was unsuccessful in these strategies with seeking the answer, and was deliberately disobeying God while doing them.
So just imagine the desperate, “mighty” Saul, a lost king seeking counsel on his next move of war. If only he could consult the respected prophet of Israel whom had chosen him to become king out of his own father’s house, right? Surely, Samuel would know God’s voice regarding the matter. Unfortunately, Samuel was dead during Saul’s desperation, so seeking counsel from him was not an option either. It may be possible that his death may have even catapulted all of the other ignorant moves Saul made to obtain the answer.
“I’ll contact a medium, in order to summon the spirit of Samuel for my answer,” Saul thought.
Saul made the decision to pull out the worst strategy from his old strategic toolbox. Divination. Even after banning all diviners and mediums from the land early in his kingship and sentencing all of those who practiced the dark arts to death, he sought out a medium in order to contact the spirit of Samuel for his answer! Embedded within this story is the fact that Saul already knew the outcome of what would happen to him and his throne the whole time. Samuel already told him that his throne would be given over to David, his neighbor, due to his own deliberate disobedience.
Saul knew what he should have done the whole time (repent and turn back to God), but did not because he chose to stay in the state in which he was in. He chose to stay hardened because it was easier- to him leaning on his own understanding or his own power was easier. He was comfortable, up until the last minute- when it was too late to turn back because he had gone too far. He knew that divination was against God. He knew that the work of a medium was forbidden for those who follow God’s law. He knew that strategy would put him at risk for punishment.
Old strategies can create a detrimental downfall. When we know what is right, we are always held accountable to God for what we know to be right. This is the heart of iniquity. The spirit of iniquity typically produces cyclic, “ back to square 1” life scripts that play out for the worst. In this case, for Saul, it was his last cycle. In addition to the state of Saul’s soul and heart, the information that he attained was not even a completely new revelation! He was simply told by the shadow of Samuel that his kingdom would be given to David; Information which he already knew.
Old strategies will not disclose any new information. Old strategies rarely breed any new results.
This “shadow” of Samuel did however tell Saul that he was going to join him tomorrow in the realm of the dead, both him and his sons, through dying by the sword. This is a one time occurrence in the bible in which I believe demonstrates how entertaining the negative spiritual realm can create a platform for contrary activity to take over your life. Could this “spirit” not have declared death into Saul’s life? Possibly. But nothing could stop that because Saul opened the door for something dark to take precedence in his life by consulting a medium on his own accord. He had no protection or power keeping him protected by evil.
I believe that Saul’s outcome of death would not have been so tragic if he had not contacted the medium and consulted with the spirit world illegally. Saul committed a blatant, illegal act in the realm of the spirit. After all of this drama, he ended up killing his own self the next day, coerced by the spirit of suicide and intentionally falling on his sword.
Keep Up to Date
God wants a responsive heart and mind for his purposes. He gives us a new heart in order to execute our purpose in the Earth realm. He reveals to us in proportion to what we ask when we tune into His frequency to hear. He won’t force you into a loyal relationship, but He specifically tells us that He gives us a new heart of flesh and throws out the heart of stone. He created us all with the DNA to sustain the inner workings of the mandatory technological upgrade which was installed in us at the time of our salvation.
At our “rebirth” we were given a new way to “re-present” his kingdom. There is no need to grasp onto old strategies. Didn’t God say, “Behold, I make all things new,” and “Watch I am about to do a new thing that will make the ears of all who hear tingle” ?
With this new encryption in our mental framework, we should choose to grasp a firmer grip on God. We need to animate a firmer grip of God’s word. We need to steadfastly create a firmer grip on the will of God.We need a firmer grip on his specific purpose for our lives. We need a firmer grip on the purposes of our lives as individuals, as families, as a community, as cities, as states and as a nation. We need a firmer grip of the understanding of our identity.
Since part of our collective identity has been defragmented and lost, we must renew the strength that enables us to do exceedingly, abundantly, above all that we can think, and re-install the basic foundations of what makes us all a part of the body of Christ. We can deploy scripts of power according to the Spirit working in us by faith, versus letting viruses and malware spread.
